RPI = Reticulocyte % × (Patient Hct / Normal Hct) / Maturation Factor
Clinical Notes
A normal RPI is 1.0. A RPI above 2-3 indicates an appropriate marrow response to anemia (e.g., hemolysis, recent bleeding); a low RPI (< 2) indicates an inadequate response (e.g., marrow failure, deficiency). A normal hematocrit of 45% is the conventional reference.
