Clinical Notes
The calcium-phosphate product (serum calcium in mg/dL multiplied by serum phosphate in mg/dL) is used to estimate the risk of metastatic vascular and soft-tissue calcification, particularly in chronic kidney disease. A product above about 55 mg²/dL² is associated with increasing calcification and mortality risk, though contemporary CKD-MBD guidelines (KDIGO) emphasise controlling the individual calcium and phosphate values rather than targeting a specific product.
